My questioning of some of the concepts and ideologies expressed by Christianty lead me to a contraversial and enriching debate with a group of young chritians last night.
When a recently ‘saved’ Christian friend of mine invited me to a Christian gathering, I was a bit reluctant to go at first. But I decided that if there are people that have the answers that Im looking for, or maybe can explain christianyt to me in a non dogmatic way, then it would be worth the visit.
Arriving at the 2 story terraced house, I was greeted by friendly young people and promptly welcomed into they’re home for the entertainment and socialising to begin…..
The eneving started off with some prayers and talking in tounges (when they say gibberish and believe it makes sense to god, even when they dont understand what they are saying). Feeling much like the odd one out, the evening began with drinks and talks about the “the world” and what christians must do to save their souls.
I debated with them about several issues including:
Why arent dinosaurs mentioned in the bible if god knows all?
There answer was dinosaura are in th bible and Leviathan was an example, I had to point out to them that Leviathan is a mythical creature, and not as real like a T-Rex, I also had to point out that humans and dinosaurs couldnt possibly have been alive at the same time, but they just disputed these claims by saying that science is corrupeted….
Why do Christians, hate gay people so much?
They said that ity was because our purpose on earth is to procreate, and homosexuals cant so thats agait gods will. I challenegd this by arguing that some hetrosexual couples canot have kids, what is there purpose in life if your belief is true? They disputed my cliams a being irrelivent becaus they believe that all true christians can have kids if they pray o god….
What is our reason for existing?
They gave some long winded answer about why this quetion was irrelivent (obviously sedated by the dogma of religion), however they then gave me an answer which was to serve and worship god… sounds like slavery to me, which brings me to my next question…
The bible contains rules and methods regarding the treatment and rights of slaves. How can you believe in any religion which condones slavery? They argued that it wasnt slavery but servitude, and rules of how to treat a servant, but this is obviously white washed rubbish, as servants dont have to give thir children to their owners/employers ect….
And there was lots of other debates going on, but the overall conclusion, they said I have to believe before I can understand. And so we came to a stalemate.
I hope by reading this you do not think of me as an active athiest trying to disprove god. I just have an open mind about life, and I am not so easily manipulated by the scriptures and communites of organised religions.
